About Ann
Ann was born in 1923 in Kent, the daughter of a farmer. She was the middle child of seven and attended school but helped on the farm until she was 14. Her parents could no longer afford to keep her and so she was sent to work as a scullery maid in the 'big house' in 1939. During WWII Ann joined the Land Army and drove tractors and is very proud of her tractors driving license! In 1954 she married the love of her life, Jack. They lived in Northolt, Middlesex and had 3 children. Jack passed away in 1990 and Ann misses him every day. She often says she was so incredibly lucky to have had the very best husband.
Ann lived in Ruislip before moving to Poplars Care Home in late 2020. She is supported in this challenge by the Home's staff and her family. |
Ann will celebrate her 100th birthday in October. Having been diagnosed with Macular disease 30 years ago, Ann has experience of sight loss and the devastation it can cause. She is determined to do what she can to help others in a similar position.
Exercise and keeping mobile has always been very important to Ann. "Use it or lose it!" is Ann's saying. Ann has been supported to do this at Poplars Care Home during regular walks with Paul. He came up with an idea to raise money for causes close to Ann heart and also mark the milestone of her 100th birthday. |
